The Federation of the Polish Church Libraries
________________________ FIDES
ABOUT FEDERATION:
- The Federation of the Church Libraries was founded by the National Conference
of the Catholic Bishops of Poland on March 18, 1995. It numbers 88 member libraries,
including most of the libraries of the departments of theology and higher Catholic
diocesan and religious orders' seminaries.
- The Federation carries out a program of setting up computer networks and bibliographic
standards for the Polish theological libraries. At this point the Federation provides
a support for the participating libraries in their transition to MARC21 international
cataloging format as well as their efforts to start the aforementioned thesaurus
of ecclesiastical scholarship.
- From 1995 Federation FIDES is one of the twelve ordinary members of
BETH
(Bibliotheques Européennes de Théologie, formerly Conseil International des
Associations de Bibliotheques de Théologie), an international advisory council
for theological libraries (founded in 1961). Every year a Federation's delegate
takes part in the General Assembly of BETH.
